Before I start, What even is a quiet time? Simply put, it is the time you spend alone in fellowship with God. I recall when I would have my quiet time just because I didn! t want to disappoint my kind shepherds, who were so patient and relentless in helping me, because I knew they’d ask and they did. It wasn’t an activity that I enjoyed at all,but I actually dreaded it. I believe that was because everything was based on rules that l’had unknowingly set in my head rather than love for God. Any friend you talk toout of fear of that person disliking you because you missed a day of your usual conversation gradually becomes a burden to you. I used to think, “what if I miss a dayand Jesus stops loving me?” or “what if he doesn’t love me because I don’t have the right steps?” Oh, but I realized over time that our Abba is more gracious than that (Romans 8:15).
Obviously, l’m here because a switch happened, and you are probably wondering what changed. Like the Word of God says, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Unknowing to me, although my reasons were religious,
the words I was reading started to shift something in me. Most importantly, a love for His word egan to grow in my heart. I can’t remember the last time any of my
shepherds inquired about my quiet time, but I continue (by God’s grace) to have it
every day. I suppose you could say that I learned to have my quiet time by having my quiet time.
IS
I have my quiet time now because it keeps the most important relationship in my life
alive. There is no better way to say it than my fellowship with God keeps me sane and
hopeful. That’s why I have my quiet time and recommend that you do too.
This blog is titled “My QuietTime” because I believe that the times that I spend in fellowship with the Lord are the source of my life; everything I share with you can be
traced back to my quiet times in some way, so the name seemed appropriate. I just
want to share how the Word of God works for me on a daily basis, and hopefully it will encourage you to have your own quiet time with the Lord.
My QuietTime arose from an idea given to me by the Holy Spirit, as well as my love
for sharing what I learn from God during these personal times. I pray that the Lord will instill a love for His word in your heart as you read these entries, just as
He did in mine.
