UNGUARDED HEART=UNTAMED TONGUE

Hello everybodyyyyyyyyy

How was last week? Mine was okay. I am still trying to get into a consistent routine that matches all of my goals for this year; I am not there yet but the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter. Since the Holy Spirit has had my heart in a chokehold recently, for great reasons as you will see when you continue reading lol, we are talking about the heart again today.

I lost my glasses, and it has been difficult. My glasses have these features that decrease the light around me. I’m not sure what the technical terminologies are, but I do know it cost a lot of money; nonetheless, it was well worth it. It’s like if I had a special filter that keeps the harshness of the light out of my eyes. I was discussing with a friend about a text message sent by someone with whom I had a misunderstanding; I was trying to get this friend to see that they were not understanding the text in the way the person intended. The Holy Spirit whispered, and I believe he meant it to sound gentle, yet it hit me like a blow. He said, “to the pure all things are pure.” Wowwwwwww Holy Spirit…are you saying that I am only interpreting the person’s text in an impure way because my heart is impure? That’s crazy. He was right though.

We always see things based on the condition of our hearts.

James 3:8

But no one can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

I read this bible verse during my quiet time and I told/asked the Holy Spirit that it is a little unfair that He tells me to watch what I say at the same time knowing that I can’t? He didn’t allow my question to land properly before He said, “Thanks to God that we can guard our hearts, even though we can’t tame our tongue.” Yes, so an unguarded heart will always yield an evil tongue because out of the abundance of my heart my mouth speaks. In the words of Pastor Lawrence Oyor, “ when you squeeze a dry sponge water will not come out.”

Guarding my heart will indirectly tame my tongue.

Remember how my glasses protected my eyes from bright lights at night and brilliant sunlight during the day? A pure heart is our shield. My glasses did not stop the sun shining or the brilliance of those cars’ lights, but they did ensure that my eyes were protected. Similarly, taking care of what enters our hearts will help us care for what comes out of our mouths.

After failing horribly several times, I realized that I couldn’t guard my heart on my own. Life is far too complicated to even try because you may not even realize that anything has entered your heart until it is too late and the damage has been done. Sometimes the damage caused by an impure heart is irreversible…Judas Iscariot is all too aware of this.

Psalm 139:23-24

Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

This cry of David now makes way more sense to me. David knew that the true condition of his heart was known only to God and not to himself. And just as those glasses cost me more, being searched by God will cost us, but the end result will always be worth it. May David’s cry be ours also. Amen

Have a blessed week. God bless.
